                    Q. My Remote Control has stopped working?

Humax decided when designing their receivers, that it would be a good idea to make the remote control, able to control other AV equipment you may have (to save you having too many remotes). Of course  the remote is not clever enough to know what AV device you now wish to control, so you have to select it, in advance. For example on my old Humax remote, there is a row of four buttons running along near the top, with the first button labelled "PVR", this stands for Personal Video Recorder (or in english Humax Box). If you find that your Humax box is no longer responding to commands from the remote control, and the batteries are good, then more than likely you have accidentally put the remote control into another of its available modes. to get it back to operating correctly, just press this "PVR" button once (it should light briefly) and that should get you going again.

Q. I have lost the BBC HD Channel (Not BBC1 HD) How do I get it back?

Simplest way is to go into the standard menu and do a "Factory Reset" and then a "FreeSat Tune". You will not lose any recordings you may have (if using a HDR receiver), but you will need to enter your old UK postcode in the set-up.

Q. When I plug my new "virgin" Humax receiver in, it comes up as "No Signal Being Received"?

The default transponder 11428H (the one where the program guide, channel listings and software updates are located) used by freesat is not on the same transponder/satellite as where most of the actual TV channels are located. This transponder is on the Eurobird Satellite which is at 28.5 degrees east (Astra2 is at 28.2 degrees east), so if your dish is not pointing between these two locations, it may not pick up the signal from both of these satellites. Easiest way to determine this is to do a Manual Scan in set-up, and select 11428H. If there is no signal on this transponder, but there is on 11778V, then your dish needs moving ever so slightly to the left (standing behind the dish, looking out to the sky). To recap 11428H is on Eurobird @ 28.5 degrees and 11778V is on Astra2 @ 28.2 degrees.

Q. How do I get into the secret engineers menu?

Press "Menu" button, select "System", select "Diagnostics" press in this order, the coloured buttons on the remote control, red - green - yellow - blue - green - yellow - blue.

Q. How do I change or upgrade the Hard Drive?

If your hard drive fails or is failing and you want to change it, here are some tips. Use a "AV" type hard drive, they spin slower and ignore minor data errors. The maximum size you can fit, which the Humax will automatically format is 1Tb, although it is possible to fit bigger, but the Humax box will not be able to format it. To format a drive bigger than 1Tb, this must be done externally using a PC, which can format the Disc using the Linux Filing System (Google it up for more details).

Q. My remote control does not seem to work very well?

With the flap up, the position of the IR sensor window is not noticeable externally, but the display window is. Why? Because the flap window material has been coated on its inner surface everywhere except the display window. Now fold down the flap and locate the circular aperture in the back of the flap for the IR sensor. The coating in this circular aperture can easily be removed with your fingernail without scratching the window. I have removed this coating from the circular window area of my Humax HDR, and the remote performance has improved a little.

Q. How do I set my Humax remote control to operate my TV?

Goto the Humax web site at www.humaxdigital.com.
Goto, “Support” - “Download Centre” - “RCU Code List” - download the PDF with the same file name as the sticker on inside the battery compartment, and follow the instructions.
Please note, that some HDR remotes use a 4 digit code, and some use a 3 digit code.

Q. I have a Humax HD/HDR Foxsat freesat receiver, but the remote controls other equipment, when I do not want it to, why?

Its probable that your remote is operating on the same frequencies as another remote control you are using. The solution is to change the frequency, your Humax remote operates on. To do this

1. Switch on your TV set and the Humax product that you wish to change the remote code.
2. Make sure that the other Humax product that you do not wish to control is in Standby or powered OFF at the mains.
3. Point the remote control towards the remote control sensor of the target receiver.
4. Press and hold the 0 and OK buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until the PVR button on the remote stays red.
5. A message will appear on the TV screen:

"You can change the remote control mode.
Press a Numeric Key (<1> ~ <6>) to select the mode
Current mode: Mode 1."

6. Press a NUMERIC button (from 1 to 6) to select a different mode.
7. A message confirming the change of Mode will appear on screen.

Q. What model of remote control do I need for my Humax?

Foxsat HDR remote is model RM-F01
Foxsat T2 HDR remote is model RM-F04
Foxsat HD remote is model RM-18.

Q. I cannot get BBC iPlayer or 'Freetime' to work?

The freesat system blocks internet connections from non-uk postal addresses, so you cannot access these services in Spain unless you have a UK based VPN type connection. If you don't know what a VPN connection is, then you dont have one. Google up VPN for more information.
